At Lex Generalis, LLC (“LG”), we recognize the importance of maintaining your trust and confidence. To serve you with the most effective and beneficial service, part of our practice requires us to retain information about you or that you provide to us (collectively “Personal Information”). It is important to us to keep personal information secure and private.

LG has designed our firm website to provide information about our services, collect information from any party interested in contacting us to learn about our firm, and for our attorneys to contact potential clients.

This page (our “Privacy Policy”) informs you about our policies regarding collecting information about you, the type of information we collect and use, disclosing personal data, and protecting your data.

This Privacy Policy applies to Personal Information we collect through our website, contact forms, newsletters and events, business communications, recruiting activities, and in connection with the legal services we provide to clients.

Over time, LG collects various Personal Information to improve or provide our services, offer new products, and fulfill legal requirements. While working with us, we may ask you to provide personal details and information about your legal needs. Any information collected will be provided to LG to best respond to your inquiry.

LG will keep your Personal Information strictly confidential according to this policy. Below are the sources and types of information we may collect:

  • Clients If you are a client of our firm, we collect your name, contact details, payment information and any other information you provide to us or we otherwise obtain from third parties (e.g., from public bodies, from the opposing party etc.) when providing legal services to you. The type of information we collect from our clients varies depending on the matter and may include information about our clients’ employees, customers, and vendors (e.g., name, address, job title, contact details), communications with our client, information provided by our client, and any other information that may be relevant for the matter.
  • LG business partners and vendors We may receive contact details and payment information from business partners’ and vendors’ employees in furtherance of the relevant partner or vendor relationship.
  • Events We collect Personal Information about you if you choose to register for an event sponsored by our firm. This Personal Information may include your name, address, title, company, phone number, and email address, as well as specific information relevant to the event for which you are registering.
  • Communications If you choose to contact us for any purpose, we will collect your contact details, your name, and the content, date, and time of your message, as well as our reply and any follow-up action we take in relation to your inquiry.
  • Automated forms If you decide to make partial or full use of forms we make available for online or offline use by you, including any documents that are offered as simplified, automated, industry-standard form documents or templates, we may receive contact details or notifications about partial or full use of said forms.
  • Job applicants If you apply for a job with us, whether via email, our website, or through other means, you will be asked to enter or provide your first and last name, resume and transcripts, phone, email address, law school, graduation year, application office, department, and position. You may also provide your middle name, address, country, search firm, search firm recruiter, search firm email, reference(s), a cover letter, writing sample, deal sheet, and additional transcripts.
  • Other sources We may receive Personal Information about you from other sources, including third parties that help us update, expand, and analyze our records, identify new customers, or prevent or detect fraud. We may also receive information about you from social media platforms, for example, when you interact with us on those platforms or access our social media content. The information we may receive is governed by the privacy settings, policies, and/or procedures of the relevant social media platform, and we encourage you to review them.
  • Cookies and Usage Data Through the use of cookies and similar technologies, we may collect your device IP address, unique device ID, hardware and software type, Internet service provider, serving domain, geographical area, location data, browser type, and settings data (such as screen resolution, color depth, time zone settings, browser extension and plugins) operating system, referring URLs, search history, information on actions taken or interaction with our digital assets (e.g., page views) and dates and times of actions. Most web browsers allow you to manage cookies through the browser settings. Be aware that if you opt out of and do not agree to certain cookies, your experience on our website or other similar services may be diminished, and some features may not work as intended, depending on the cookie.   • Newsletters and informational programs We also may use your information as part of our newsletter lists and to send information about LG’s services and legal information. You may change your preferences or unsubscribe at any time.
  • IP addresses Occasionally, LG will log IP addresses for administration reasons. We may collect domain information to analyze better how our visitors use our site. We use information such as the people who visit, how often they visit, and what pages they visit. This information helps us improve our content and user experience.

Use of Personal Information

We may use your Personal Information for the following purposes:

  • To provide legal services to our clients, including advising clients on legal matters, representing them in the context of legal proceedings such as court proceedings, arbitration and settlement, and dealings with regulatory authorities; filing patent applications; managing and collecting information for potential or actual litigation proceedings, including e-Discovery; to conduct due diligence in the context of IPOs, mergers and acquisitions and other transactions; and processing payments and advance payments on behalf of our clients.
  • For marketing purposes, including sending client alerts, newsletters, and other communications to our clients and business contacts. We will send you communications that are relevant to you, based, for example, on the practice areas and industries you select when you subscribe to receive our communications. We may also use your Personal Information to register you for, and confirm your attendance at, events; furnish biographical details to other attendees; provide you with the opportunity to participate in on-demand learning; and assess the effectiveness of our events, promotional campaigns, and publications.
  • To manage our business relationships with customers, clients, vendors and suppliers, business partners, cooperating law firms, and other contractors, including processing invoices and sending service-related communications.
  • For recruitment purposes, including to evaluate job applications, invite you for a job interview and arrange for travel.
  • To communicate with you and respond to your inquiries.
  • For other business purposes, such as providing, operating, and improving our products and services, performing data analyses, detecting, preventing, and responding to actual or potential fraud, illegal activities, or intellectual property infringement, defending our legal rights, and complying with our legal obligations and internal policies.

Disclosure of Personal Information

We may disclose Personal Information about you as described below:

  • With LG employees, affiliates, and contractors around the world as needed to provide legal services.
  • With third party contractors engaged by LG in the course of business (e.g., accountants, insurance companies, banks, auditors, LG’s network of external legal counsel and other professional experts, advisors and/or consultants engaged by LG).
  • With government agencies, regulators, or courts, as required by applicable law and/or in the context of legal proceedings.
  • As necessary to provide legal services to our clients, including opposing counsel.
  • With event partners or co-sponsors.
  • With vendors and service providers who perform services on our behalf, including dealers, distributors, marketing, and research agencies, with whom LG has a direct contractual relationship.
  • If you post other information to our website or through social media, that information may be displayed and viewable by other users.
  • If you gave us your permission, or if we believe doing so is required or appropriate to (i) comply with laws, law enforcement requests, and legal process, such as a court order or subpoena; (ii) respond to your requests; or (iii) protect your, our or others’ rights, property, or safety.
  • In case of merger, sale, or other asset transfers. If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, due diligence, reorganization, bankruptcy, or liquidation where the business will not continue as a going concern, receivership, sale of LG assets, or transition of our products or services to another firm, then your Personal Information may be transferred as part of such a transaction as permitted by law and/or contract.

Content within our website may include links to other sites we do not operate, including third-party social networks (such as Google+, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn) and our clients. Please be aware that these third-party websites are governed by their own privacy policies. We are not responsible for any site’s content or privacy practices that are not managed by our firm. We strongly advise you to review the privacy policies of external websites.

International Data Transfers.

We may transfer Personal Information to jurisdictions where we and our service providers operate. Where required, we implement appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers (for example, contractual protections) and limit access to those with a need to know for the purposes described in this Policy.

Children’s Privacy.

Our website and services are not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect Personal Information from children. If we learn that we have collected Personal Information from a child, we will delete it. Parents or guardians who believe their child has provided us information may contact us to request deletion.

Security

We take strict precautions to protect your Personal Information. We maintain administrative, technical and physical safeguards that are intended to appropriately protect Personal Information against accidental or unlawful destruction, accidental loss, unauthorized alteration, unauthorized disclosure or access, misuse, and any other unlawful form of processing of the Personal Information in our possession. However, because no information system can be 100% secure, we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information. For example, when you submit information through our website, it is sent through an unencrypted email. Therefore, we recommend you avoid submitting any confidential information through our website. LG is not responsible for the interception of your data before we receive it.

We retain Personal Information only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Policy, including to provide legal services, comply with legal, ethical, and professional obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Retention periods vary depending on the nature of the data and our obligations.

We may make changes to this Privacy Policy. The “Effective” date at the top of this page indicates when this Privacy Policy was last revised. Your continued use of our services indicates your consent to those updates. We encourage you to read this Privacy Policy periodically to stay up-to-date about our privacy practices.
